(updated build with music fix provided by krickit)
A hardcore platformer by Matt Thorson and Noel Berry (me), that we made in 4 days.
We used pretty much all our resources for this. 8186/8192 code, the entire spritemap, the entire map, and 63/64 sounds.
Let us know what you think! :)
jctwood, yeah when we first "finished" the game we were probably at like 7600 or so, but then kept tweaking and adding stuff. Ended up taking out very small graphical things here and there to fit the final tweaks we wanted. :)
Kling, nice, you made it super far! and yeah those final levels are super tough, haha
Good level design. Some of these strawberries are really interesting. I also liked how you teach which buttons are important by prompting them to start the game.
However, whenever the dust effect is visible (and maybe some other effects), the framerate goes down enormously. Later levels are hardly possible for me under these conditions.
Got to 2600 and then the page reloaded when I tried to create an account to make this comment. Great...
For some reason my X key stopped working at the summit. I thought it might have been a deviously cruel feature to punish my death count and slowness but I am now assuming not. Still really beautiful gameplay! Thank you again for sharing!
hey, thanks for playing it everyone :)
TehSuckerer, sorry to hear it's slowing down... you made it really far though, regardless!
jctwood, no idea why the X key stopped working D: we definitely didn't add something like that to the end, haha. congrats on finishing it!
So my friend linked this on twitter and I had a blast playing. I really enjoy hard platformers and this definitely gives the feel of one with the tight controls, good-looking design, and great platforming that is tough enough to be challenging but not too much to be discouraging. There are some minor issues with level design such as the second to last level being trivial if you use a small space on the left side. Overall though I really enjoyed this, especially with replay value if you're going for lower times/deaths/with or without strawberries.
Got this after some practice, really happy with it.
also have a 6:54 with 16 strawberries if that's the max, not sure if there are any more hidden ones.
I just saw goldee's 2:42. The best I could do was a 2:47. :(
Goldee, what did you do?
Already commented on your video but to explain it here it's getting rid of unnecessary movement. While you do get some nice skips, your movement in other levels is a little slow. There are some places where you're losing lots of time by not maximizing movement.
Run Comparison it's easier to see in this side by side comparison, although you'll need to sync it yourself.
It's things like this that make me really love hard platformers though, discoveries of skips + perfecting playstyles.
I guess I'll edit out the last one because I just did this
and the insanity shines through
